Sunshine Coast Natural Fertility Care

A state of good fertility signals that you’re in an optimally healthy state. However, fertility rates are declining, with fertility challenges currently affecting one in six couples in Australia. So what’s going on?

There are many reasons for this – environmental factors, stress, as well as food and lifestyle choices – there are a multitude of possibilities as to why it is taking longer than expected for you and your partner to conceive. It seems to be quite complicated – but what if it didn’t have to be?

At the end of the day, 3 simple things lead to conception:
A healthy egg, healthy sperm and a healthy uterine environment.

In reality, very few women & their partners are actually clinically infertile – however, many are subfertile and are not in a healthy reproductive balance. This is why a preconception care routine is the first step in improving your fertility, because ultimately, your health prior to conception and during pregnancy gives your baby the best chance of developing in a healthy way both in and out of the womb

At Bloom Chinese Medicine, optimising your fertility potential is our biggest passion. We believe it is essential to leave no stone unturned in discovering the root cause of your delayed conception, and are passionate about working with you to improve your fertility.

Perhaps you and your partner have been trying for some time, and are unsure which path to take next.
Maybe you’ve been told you have “unexplained infertility”.
Perhaps you want to try something different before turning to IVF.
Or maybe, you are just beginning your fertility journey and want to optimise your chances.

No matter where you are in your journey, allow us to assist you. Our practitioners are experienced in working with couples who are trying to conceive naturally or with the assistance of ART (including IVF, OI, IUI and ICSI), and we see these issues on a daily basis. We are passionate about helping you to better understand, and therefore take charge of, your fertility. We can assist you to navigate the various lifestyle & environmental factors which impact your fertility (both positively and negatively). We approach all cases with empathy and compassion, and understand how challenging it can be to walk this road.

    Our Approach

At Bloom Chinese Medicine, we approach fertility with an integrative view. We strive to incorporate the best empirically-tested aspects of Traditional Chinese medicine and the more mainstream, conventional Western Medicine. We combine test results, scans and charts with your overall unique picture of symptoms to assess and assist you as best we can. Our practitioners are highly trained in the areas of natural fertility, assisted fertility treatments & hormonal health – and this includes in uncovering the cause of your ‘unexplained’ infertility. We focus on improving the quality of the egg and sperm, addressing any underlying health conditions, and improving the overall quality of health of YOU to naturally improve your fertility & your chances of conception.

Our gentle approach helps to encourage a state of balance in your body – however our method is not an overnight pill, and it takes time and a well-formulated treatment plan to achieve the best results. We recommend a three to eighteen month period of preparation – how long it will take for you depends on your state of health and any other factors that may be affecting your fertility.

    Understand Your Cycle

We work with many couples who are simply wanting to get in touch with their bodies and optimise their health as they prepare themselves physically and emotionally for pregnancy and parenthood. We encourage and assist you in understanding your natural hormonal cycle, and in identifying the best time in your cycle to conceive naturally.

In addition to our acupuncture and Chinese medicine services, we can support you by discussing herbal, nutrition, mineral and vitamin supplements that may be helpful for you, as well as exercise and relaxation techniques that may be helpful for you at this time. Testing can be of assistance at this stage too, and we often recommend hormone tests, blood tests, ultrasounds and a semen analysis to get a clear picture of where you’re at, and to make sure we’re on the right track. We often incorporate BBT charting into our clinical picture of you, as well.

    Working with Other Health Conditions

A diagnosis of PCOS, endometriosis, amenorrhoea (no periods) and other inflammatory, autoimmune or  hormonal health conditions can lead women to have difficulty in imagining themselves being able to easily conceive. We always encourage couples who have been trying for a while to have full investigations to ensure no underlying issues are preventing conception. This includes the male partners, as the incidence of sperm issues is rising. This can ensure that any issues can be detected early on in the process and addressed immediately.

Even in ultimately healthy and fertile people, a combination of unhealthy factors can add up to the point it can compromise fertility – things like digestive problems, gut issues, parasites, menstrual problems, stress, nutritional factors, overwork, medical conditions and even emotional issues.

Health conditions which may impact your natural fertility include:

    • irregular ovulation/irregular cycles
    • sub-optimal egg or sperm quality
    • low ovarian reserve (AMH)
    • irregular cycles
    • amenorrhoea (no periods)
    • light periods
    • heavy periods
    • short cycles (<26 days)
    • long cycles (>32 days)

    • Luteal Phase Defect
    • Structural issues with fallopian tubes
    • low libido
    • Endometriosis
    • PCOS
    • Uterine fibroids
    • Adenomyoma
    • Vulvodynia
    • Vaginismus

    • Pelvic pain
    • Recurrent UTIs
    • Recurrent thrush
    • Pelvic inflammatory disease
    • Autoimmune disease
    • Sleep issues
    • High levels of stress
    • Overwork
    • Digestive issues (yep, it’s all connected!)

Our aim at Bloom is to help you get to the bottom of WHY you have not yet conceived. We help you to take the stress out of what can be an incredibly emotional time, and support the whole couple at a physical, psychological and pathophysiological level. It’s important to us that you are healthy in both mind AND body.

    Male Fertility

It takes two to make a baby! This might seem obvious, but unfortunately the male side of the equation is often dismissed. However, male factor infertility is involved in approximately half of all couples having trouble conceiving – so we strongly recommend that both sides of the partnership be rigorously assessed and testing prior to begin trying to conceive. Walking the Path and Making it Work

The fertility journey can be a harrowing one, and fertility problems can strain any relationship. We believe the best outcomes are achieved when both sides of the partnership are on the journey together, working to support each other.

Couples can have difficulty in deciding what road to go down – whether they continue to try for a natural conception, or to seek the assistance of IVF or ART. We can assist and support you in making any necessary decisions, to help you reach the best outcome for you and your family.

    Integrative Care

We pride ourselves on our integrative approach to fertility and collaborate with other health professionals to provide you with the best holistic and personalised care. As a holistic Chinese Medicine clinic, we incorporate a wide array of techniques in clinic. We also refer out to our extensive network of medical and allied health professionals, when we think it will help.
